As both the son and brother of chartered accountants, Philip broke the family mould when he trained as a lawyer in 1972 with a long established Horsham firm.  After 6 years, Philip joined Burstow & Burstow solicitors to create a new Private Client Department specialising in wills, trusts, probate and estate planning.  After 30 successful years Philip joined Spofforths in 2009 to lead its newly formed Private Client Department.  

Philip has lived in Horsham all his life and is married to Debbie with a son at university and two daughters at local schools.  Philip is a qualified squash coach and if he can find the time he wishes to fulfil his lifetime ambition to explore every corner of the British Isles.

Professional Expertise

Philip specialises in working alongside families, other professionals and businesses to provide practical advice and solutions involving will drafting, estate planning and business succession, inheritance tax, trusts, powers of attorney and administration of estates.  Philip became a member of STEP in 1991 and is on the specialist panel of advisors for Mencap.  He is a director of Age UK, Horsham and on the Board of Carers Support Services. 

Philip lectures regularly on his specialist subjects and provides legal comment in the press and on radio.  He has a special interest in creating trusts as tax shelters and also to protect vulnerable beneficiaries.
