chichester accountant is inspired to raise funds for diabetes research

A dedicated dad in Chichester is set to raise funds for diabetes research by running the London Marathon on 25th April 2010. Adrian Pearce, a partner for Spofforths Chartered Accountants, is supporting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the only charity in the world devoted to finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes. The Chartered Tax Advisor feels passionately about the foundation’s work as his six-year-old son was diagnosed with the condition at the age of four.

For the last two years, Joe Pearce has been living with a daily routine of up to four insulin injections and numerous blood tests to keep him healthy and ultimately alive. Adrian is focussed on raising funds for JDRF in the hope that a cure can be found. His colleagues are supporting him as he trains ahead of the gruelling event. As well as preparing to run the full 26 miles, Adrian is aiming to raise a total of £2,500 for the charity.

Adrian says that Joe is a real inspiration to him: “Sadly there is no cure for this condition and Joe is having to accept that the daily routine he currently endures will be the same for the rest of his life. Despite the discomfort of injections and the irritation of constant blood sugar monitoring, Joe never complains and is full of life. He is an inspiration to me, and his bravery is what will get me through the last five miles.

“I remain convinced that a cure for Type 1 diabetes can be found and it is simply a question of sufficient research, which takes time and money. If I can raise some funds for JDRF and in a small way speed up the research process, there is a real hope that Joe and children like him will be cured and avoid the devastating complications that some Type 1 diabetics develop in later life.”
