Lisa John, the well-known tenpin bowling champion from our Worthing office, recently travelled to Hong Kong to take part in the Women’s World Tenpin Bowling Championships 2011. While Lisa is an amateur bowler the majority of her opponents compete on a professional level. Despite the stiff competition Lisa proved that she is a world class player and was ranked 19th overall – the top British player. This fantastic achievement follows success in the European Champions Cup 2011 in Finland where Lisa won a bronze medal.
After months of preparation, Lisa took part in various singles events at Hong Kong Bowling City to secure her place as British number one. Having travelled to Hong Kong with six other team mates, she took part in team events and helped to secure 9th place for the English tenpin bowlers. Lisa also participated in the doubles event with Hayley Rumkee and the pair finished 9th. They both went on to enjoy trios challenges with Nicki Ainge and came 15th.
The 29-year-old said: “I’m really pleased that I secured my position as British number one. I’m now setting my sights on the World Cup in South Africa during December where I hope to finish in the top three. Spofforths, who are also sponsors of mine, help me to balance work with training time and competitions. So far 2011 has been a big year for me and I would like to end it well in South Africa”.
